We’re proud to announce our first Business of the Month for 2025, South Region Driving School – La Porte! South Region is known around these parts for developing safe drivers, and we all know we could use more of those!
South Region Driving School is more than just a place to learn how to drive. Owners Alicia and Thomas Green have made it their mission to give back through ministries, donation drives, and partnerships with local nonprofits such as Agape Centric, Inc., always finding ways to support the community and its students.
In fact, when La Porte ISD approached the chamber to help kickoff the La Porte ISD Partners in Education program, South Region was the first to offer to help!

Mitsubishi Chemical America – SoarnoL Division
With the busiest part of our year behind us, we have so much positive news to share! One of those being recognizing Mitsubishi Chemical as Business of the Month!
Coffee containers. Soup cans. Vacuum packed meat and cheese. Wander the aisles at any grocery store, and these are just some examples of the product packaging you’ll find. The array of sizes and shapes are all familiar to many of us, but less known is the role Mitsubishi Chemical America-SoarnoL Division plays in delivering these products to store shelves.
Did you know SoarnoL EVOH, a resin manufactured in our own backyard by Mitsubishi Chemical America – SoarnoL Division, can be combined with other materials to form multilayer films, sheets, bottles, tubes, pipes, and more, that are ideal for packing a variety of products, including many grocery store favorites? Thanks to SoarnoL – whether it’s used for vacuum-packed meats, baby food, or even K-Cups, the plastic pods that have become a staple of office coffee bars everywhere – products stay fresher longer, with no impact on the recyclability of the package.
“With our product being used in so many food-related applications, obviously it has to be safe for consumers, but it goes even further than that,” said Brian Kinkopf, SoarnoL General Manager. “Because it helps food stay fresh for longer periods, there’s less food waste. It’s an extremely versatile product, and the potential uses for it are extraordinary.”
They also believe that as an industrial neighbor in La Porte, it is their responsibility to be an active partner in the community. A great, big congratulations to our February Business of the Month, Main Street Food Truck Park & Entertainment Center!
Owner Brandy Peres has been on a mission since she purchased the food truck park in 2023, and it’s turning out to be a prime gathering location for families and groups. With daily specials from the Tiki Bar, a live music and entertainment calendar, and kid and dog friendly deck, it’s no wonder Main Street Food Truck Park has wildly grown in popularity since last summer. Follow their social media channels for current updates and plan to bring your crew as the weather warms up!
Currently, their rotating lineup of trucks includes KB’s Kitchen, Be Cool Be Calm Eats, and Dang Dats Delicious – but they change periodically! All in all, you have your choice in brick oven pizzas, Hawaiian and Puerto Rican-inspired, and comfort foods with their own unique twist – basically, you can make anyone in your group happy with this meal mecca!
We are so grateful to Brandy and her team for the lively transformation you’re providing on our beloved Main Street!

Congratulations to Monument Inn Restaurant for being awarded our January Business of the Month! We were so pleased to finally have been able to recognize them at our Annual Banquet event!
Monument Inn has been a long-standing part of La Porte history, having weathered a devastating fire just six weeks after opening, hurricanes, multiple renovations, and the covid pandemic. Their service and commitment to their community and employees have relentlessly continued throughout it all.
Bob and Ann Laws purchased the Monument Inn in June of 1990 and the restaurant has been in business since 1974 serving up some of the freshest seafood, succulent steaks, and their famous homemade cinnamon rolls, right along the colorful ship channel! Thank you for all you do!

Askins & Askins
Knox Askins grew up in Brenham and worked his way through college and law school via various radio, television and newspaper jobs. He received his bachelor’s degree in 1958, and his Doctor of Jurisprudence degree in 1962, from the University of Houston. Upon graduation he came to La Porte to begin law practice. He was appointed City Attorney of the City of La Porte in 1965, where he served for more than 50 years.
Knox is true friend, a mentor and a blessing to so many in our community and we are honored to recognize him with a Lifetime Membership to our Chamber of Commerce.
